I’m having trouble with this concept of ‘teacher’. Mainly because I’m not currently a teacher, but an instructional designer in an awkward position.
Does anybody have any ideas for my situation?
Bec, how about you? Your Week 4 post asked for thoughts on how the role of teacher may change in the future. Have you considered the role in instructional design?
Or what about Sharon?
I’m an instructional designer. I write digital, experiential learning programs. Usually, clients give us source content and learning outcomes then we transform them into engaging digital learning experiences, in which learners make decisions as if they would in real life. They’re awesome!
However, recently we were bought by another company who want us to do the same thing for some of their vocational courses. The problem is, the content we’re provided by their content writers is remnant of a year 6 ESL student. Unfortunately, the ‘powers that are (or be, I’m not sure)’ within this company are becoming increasingly angry with me for constantly trying to correct their material, and as such, refuse to change it. As an example, although this is not a direct excerpt, but is similar to what I receive (for a diploma level qualification):
“Businesses are important for determining the direct costs associated with it. If you know your costs of your financials they can greatly have helped”
Yes.
I know.

So, how does one, responsible for the effective experiential design of a course use netgl to educate content writers who refuse to believe there is a problem with their learning material?
