A while ago I went through a phase of ‘development’ at work in which I realised my proofreading wasn’t up to scratch. So, I used NetGL to splice together some youtube clips into a website. The website offered some videos with tips on editing. Some of my colleagues used it and claimed it made a difference to the way they approached our editing…… I don’t know if they were just being polite… It’s pretty basic. | Click the image to visit the site! |
However, remembering that got me thinking, using this NetGL thing effectively is pretty closely related to information literacy. Weiner (2010) expressed that information literacy involves sourcing, analyzing and evaluating information with an awareness of how it is inextricably linked to power and persuasion, and is an all-encompassing process by which one interacts with information in varying formats.
Given that I was looking to interact with information in varying formats, during this ‘form slump’ I also planned, designed and wrote an induction course on digital experiential learning. My company is an experiential learning company you see, and I felt I wasn’t given any support when I joined (What is experiential learning? How does my company do it? How do we educate clients in it etc?), so I decided to develop some materials for future Alexes. But this wouldn’t have been possible if I hadn’t begun to explore my own faults in relation to my ambition….. (becoming a kick arse instructional designer). Now, I’m not anywhere near there yet but by using NetGL combined with being information literate, I’ve given myself a great understanding of what I need to do.

Point is, as an educator, perhaps NetGL can be used to show people that anything is possible if you look in the right places?
