Murra, much has been said about the paradigm shift from the industrial era to the digital age (Senge 2000), with the inference that industrialised education is becoming out-dated, along with the products of the industrial age education system. Therefore, do you feel that academics are becoming obsolete?
I must stress I didn’t necessarily think this was your point, but it triggered a thought.
With the widespread accessibility of information, we’re becoming more adept at finding knowledge quickly, but possibly less adept at storing knowledge. So, given the population is ceasing its reliance on fundamental knowledge and increasing its dependence on immediate information, do you think field-specific academics will remain a valuable entity, as they hold deep information on specific areas?
